San Diego Farmers Markets (2023)

San Diego County has nearly 5,100 farms, including full-time, part-time, large, small, conventional, organic, urban, rural, established and startup farms. About 69% of San Diego County farms are 1-9 acres, and more than 40% of producers are women. San Diego is a leading producer of avocados nationally, and top crops include nursery, flower, tomato, citrus, poultry, eggs, mushrooms, succulents and strawberries.

At San Diego's daily farmers markets in neighborhoods across the county, you can sample fresh produce from local farmers and delicious treats from local artisans. Mingle with the locals and meet the farmers as you nibble on sweet, ripe fruit, listen to live music, stroll through colorful booths, and experience the great San Diego lifestyle. At some markets, cooks cook pancakes, kettle corn and tamales. Vendors sell olives stuffed with garlic, olive oil, cheese and honey, all homemade.

At many farmers markets, you'll also find local artisans selling everything from handmade soaps, jewelry, and art to textiles, ceramics, photography, and other handmade treasures.

On Tuesday afternoons, cross the bridge into charming Coronado, where sweeping views of San Diego Bay are complemented by a quaint, small-town atmosphere and fresh produce at the Coronado Farmers Market. On Wednesday evenings, farmers gather at the Ocean Beach Certified Farmers Market, where their bounty mingles with live bands, art vendors and friendly locals in a laid-back beach town. On a Thursday afternoon, head to one of San Diego's hippest neighborhoods for the North Park Farmers Market. Here you'll find artists, innovators, and young urban families shopping for pasture-fed beef, pasture-raised chickens, and the best produce local farmers have to share.

On Friday mornings, visit the Rancho Bernardo Certified Farmers Market for fresh produce, hot food vendors, baked goods, crafts and more. During the weekend, visit the Little Italy Mercato on a Saturday morning and taste "la dolce vita" with a cup of espresso as you browse five blocks of local produce, from cured meats and fresh live meats to bountiful fruits and vegetables. .

And on Sunday mornings, opt for (among other things) the huge Hillcrest Country Market, packed with food vendors, artisans and farmers. La Jolla Waterfront Market, featuring fresh produce, clothing, jewelry, cut flowers and more. and the New Point Loma Farmers Market, which not only offers fresh produce, prepared foods, baked goods, arts and crafts and more, but also offers a feeding tent for mothers and a changing area for families, as well as live music and games and an educational area/ entertainment for children.
